We Are One People – The Meaning Behind the Mural

Have you looked at the mural in the narthex and wondered about some of the images and symbols that appear there? Perhaps you have seen and read the short description and explanation of the mural which is framed on the kiosk in the narthex but you still wonder how this came about or desire more detail about the images presented.

At the Wednesday Night Connection on January 21 st , John Waechter will offer a presentation on the meaning behind the mural and how it all came to be. Initiated by the Racial Justice Working Group of the Mission Committee, the mural honors the Anishnaabe who inhabit the Grand Traverse region and whose ancestors preceded European colonization by approximately 16,000 years! It offers both truth-telling about the negative impacts (still ongoing) of colonization but offers a both a visual prophecy and hope for new relationship that will benefit all people and the planet.

Please come and learn more for the mural is also a call to action for each of us.
