This week at CORE Youth Ministry…
Join us this week at CORE as we continue our 4-week study on Jesus and Loving Others.
Matthew 5:43-48 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
Love for Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Talk to most young people and they can quickly come up with a list of those people who are friends and those who could be labeled as enemies. Society’s answer to handling an enemy is to put these people in their place, retaliate by slamming them with words or deeds, or to simply ignore them. Jesus’ teaching is a stark contrast to the way the world says to handle people. Jesus said to love our enemies and that is a message today’s Christian young person needs to hear.
Come and join us this week as we continue this new series and let’s talk about it means to model God’s genuine love.
5:45-8pm | Bring $3 for dinner and bring a friend!!
See you there!
CORE Youth Ministry gives youth a consistent time and place to gather together during the school year, enjoy fun activities, and grow in their faith in a safe and nurturing atmosphere.
We celebrate young people for the great gift they are…
- to their families
- to one another
- to our congregation
- to their community
- and to the world.
Through action and word, we hope to help our youth know what it means to believe ‘God created me, and it was very good’ and to learn to love God and love one another.
Our CORE Youth Ministries program is blessed with incredibly devoted and talented volunteer support who host a variety of youth activities designed to give our youth opportunities to experience the transforming power of God’s love in their lives, develop their individual gifts and talents, and walk along on their journey of faith.
CORE provides a number of avenues for our youth to grow and walk on their faith journey. Beginning with CORE Worship on Wednesday nights to mission opportunities both within our community and beyond to fun fellowship to retreats and camps, CORE provides tons of opportunities for our youth to engage in a meaningful relationship with a loving faith community.
There are many ways to get involved!
CORE – Middle School and Sr. High youth gather every Wednesday night during the school year for dinner and fellowship
Mission – monthly activities involve youth in outreach efforts on local, national and international levels
Media Technology – youth help make videos, create and run computer media for CORE worship and operate the sound board for the band
Music – an all-youth band leads COREworship and sometimes also plays at other church gatherings and some Sunday worship services throughout the year
Art – from painting to music to crafts and activities, youth are creatively involved in many different ways and encouraged to express their faith through a variety of media
Retreats – CORE provides a number of retreats that allow our youth to explore and grow deeper in their faith
